Motoball at the BMF May Show

MOTOBALL

THE RULES

To put it simply, MotoBall is five-a-side football on motor bikes with the goal keeper on foot. The pitch is a normal size football pitch with the addition of a semi-circle running two meters either side of the goal post.

Only the goal keeper and the referee are allowed in this area. If an attacker enters this area, a penalty is given. If a defender enters the area, an 18 yard free kick is given.

There is no offside rule, but a player cannot take the ball from one end of the pitch to the other, they must pass the ball at the halfway line

THE HISTORY

MotoBall was started after the First World War by British army dispatch riders. The sport grew and there were many teams competing in the UK and Europe.

A British league and Knock-out Cup ran for many years but unfortunately the number of teams within the UK has steadily declined to the point of near extinction. It is still very popular on the continent however; Holland, Germany and Russia still have teams that compete regularly at International level.

Patsy Quick to attend BMF May Show 2013

Off-road biking legend Patsy Quick supports Riders for Health
The off-road motorcycle racer, most famous for being the first British woman to complete the gruelling Dakar Rally, is supporting Riders for Health at the British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF) Show 18^th – 19^th May at the Peterborough Arena (formerly east of England Showground).
Patsy Quick became the first British woman to complete the legendary desert endurance race, the Dakar Rally, in 2006. Her incredible achievement came after three unsuccessful attempts, one of which cost Patsy her spleen. Prior to the Dakar, Patsy was both British and European Women’s Enduro Champion.
Now Patsy is supporting other women who are achieving incredible feats with motorcycles. In Africa, Riders for Health trains female health workers to ride confidently and safely in the difficult terrain to deliver life-saving health care to remote rural villages. Riders also trains and employs local people as technicians to service the bikes on a regular basis so that they never break down, no matter how harsh the conditions.
Patsy will lead a ride-in on behalf of Riders for Health to the BMF Show at Peterborough Arena (formerly the East of England Showground) on Saturday 18^th May.
There will be the opportunity for members of the public to join the ride en-route. Further details on how to book tickets and the route will be released nearer the time on the BMF www.thebmfshow.co.uk and Riders for Health www.riders.org websites.
‘I think that the work Riders for Health does is vital to the continued health of people in developing countries,’ explained Patsy. ‘It’s amazing to think how many lives in Africa have been saved by a motorcycle.’
At the May BMF Show, Patsy will be helping Riders for Health to promote their off-road fundraising ride to Zambia, Experience Africa.
Experience Africa is more than an off-road motorcycle tour. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the inspiring work being done in Zambia by Riders for Health and see how motorcycles are saving lives in Africa. What’s more, the money raised from the ride helps to support their humanitarian work.
Riders for Health are running a raffle at all of the events that they are attending this year to give away a free place on one of the 2014 Experience Africa rides. This is why we’ve asked all exhibitors to accept the new Deposit Scheme at the BMF Shows

The BMF Show organisers received an unsolicited e-mail today (10 April 2013) from a show visitor which we would like to share with all of our exhibitors.

'Hi
We always come to the Show on the Saturday and have a great day leaving when it closes at 5pm.
Due to a clash this year we are planning to come on the Sunday instead. Can you please confirm that all of the stands and traders etc continue until 5pm on the Sunday?
We are just concerned that the traders and stands will start packing up before then (which we have seen at other events) which would mean we would get less value for the day.

We genuinely believe that this is what show goers expect (and it would appear from this e-mail clearly don’t get from most other shows).

We want our shows to be seen as being GOOD – it is not our intention to make the lives of exhibitors even more difficult than we know they can be – so we are asking you to please work with us to make our shows better for everybody.

We would like to re-iterate that this is a DEPOSIT scheme, it is NOT an additional charge and as long as stands are not dismantled or removed from the site before 5.00 p.m. deposits will be returned – in FULL

We would ask everyone to PLEASE have the following ready when you enter the show site:

Wrist Bands ON, Vehicle passes CLEARLY displayed, and your DEPOSIT ready (please note this should be a CASH deposit) This will be counted in front of you and placed in an envelope, you will be asked to sign the back of it across the seal – this is the envelope you’ll be given back.

If everyone helps us by getting things ready there will be minimal disruption and we will do everything we can to assist you

On Saturday 4^th May in Cathedral Square, Peterborough, in conjunction with Peterborough City Council, BMF Show organiser’s The Mulberry Group, will be staging a show preview to highlight this May’s BMF Show. 9:30am - 5pm with a cavalcade departure at 4:30pm.

A number of exhibitors will be on display including:

Have you booked in for this year’s BMF May Show? Do you have a team of club members that would be interested in competing in this years BMF Shows Club Games with a twist?

As most of you know the May Show has a really packed agenda which is why we can’t always have a weekend of club games but for 2013 we can now announce that Club Games will return this year (albeit only on Saturday) with a new twist – MOTO GYMKHANA

For those of you who don’t know, Moto Gymkhana claims to be ‘the most fun you can have on a bike!’ (debatable but we’ll let them have it for now!); it requires accurate control, bursts of speed and ruthless braking. Plus ITS FREE!

This is a high-action, technical motorcycle sport that doesn't take itself too seriously. Skill, rider ability, and not horsepower are the keys to steering round a course of obstacles in the fastest time.The competition is open to teams of four and places are strictly limited to just 16 so please submit your team early to avoid disappointment.

Due to the limited number of places, initially only one team per affiliated club will be accepted. If the quota is not filled three weeks before the show we will allow clubs to enter a second team.

To enter please email BMFShows@themulberrygroup.co.uk with details of the club name, names of the four competitors and a contact telephone number.Competitors will need to be available for training at 9.00 am on Saturday morning and the competition will run most of Saturday.

Entry Requirements and Details:
- Entrants must have a motorcycle license - Full or CBT (both parts must be provided)

Vintage Vincents to be displayed at the BMF May Show!

The beautiful Vincent Black Shadow, the iconic 1950's superbike and the fastest production bike for about 15 years, will have its 65th birthday this year!

The Vincent HRD Owners Club who will be based in our brand new CLASSIC AND VINTAGE area will be celebrating that fact at the BMF May Show with a couple of solo Shadows, a sidecar Shadow in addition to a 500 Comet, a 500 sprint bike, a 1939 500 Comet, a 1000cc Egli special and at least one 1000cc Rapide.

The centre piece will be a motorised sectioned twin engine which the public can operate.

A small amount of Vincent regalia will also be available for sale as well as the option of immediate membership to the club.

The Inch Perfect stunt team offer 'Try out trials' to BMF May and Kelso Show Attendees

New to the BMF May show and Kelso Bikfest-

Inch Perfect Trials Display is a professional, fun, exciting and dynamic motorcycle trials display team providing exhilarating action packed quality entertainment to crowds across the UK.

Motorcycle trials is less about speed and more about balance, skill and extreme bike control resulting in one of the most spectacular displays you've ever seen!

Inch Perfect is about two highly enthusiastic and talented young stunt riders, with breath taking skill and balance. Performing tricks and jumps up massive vertical steps and a whole variety of other manoeuvres wouldn’t even think possible. Add to that the good humour of the commentator, a participating crowd and you’ve got a show to remember!

In conjunction with the displays, the team will also be running “Try out Trials” a 15 minute experience on a trials bike, over some smaller obstacles, to give you a real feel of what it is like to ride trials.

Playing a mixture of hit singles and classic album tracks from the 1970s and 80s, the Quo are pretty serious about recreating the good-time boogie of Status Quo whilst at the same time not taking themselves very seriously. Expect a rocking good night with plenty of jumping up and down, head banging and free air guitars for everyone.

- BIG JOE BONE - “Big Joe Bone” are Danny Wilson and Ivor Aldred...two friends from Wales who’s musical styles range from fast, furious foot stomping roots music to subtle, dulcet blues and everything in between…..they play self-penned tunes as well as classics from the early delta blues, gospel and oldtime greats.

- DR TRUTH - Formed by Chris Roach and Mike Bowden, Dr Truth have fast becoming one of the most respected original bands on the blues circuit...Following successful gigs at Beauvais, Maryport and Colne Festivals, and a headlining slot at the Blueswater festival in Morecambe.

- HOT COLD GROUND - The name comes from the wiring in a 3-core instrument lead. It was chosen from a list of about 80 alternatives. The band is made up of Daniel (vocals/guitar), Graham (original drummer) and Dave (bass) all played together in a former band, and when we parted company with the singer early in 2009, Daniel took over singing duties. Trevor then came on board with his guitar stylings, and off we went, picking up JJ on the drums, then Glen on keys, on the way...

- THE BEARCATS BLUES BAND - Signed to Affinity Records Dr Truth perform original compositions from their recently released album, Code For The Road, alongside newer songs, yet to be recorded. The band are critically acclaimed and their stage show is guaranteed to entertain. Dr Truth consists of Chris Roach (Guitar), Jocelyn Knight (Vocals), Rick Lacey (Drums) Paul Ashton (Organ / Piano), Dave Luvin (Bass).

- OUSE VALLEY SINGLES CLUB - a band that are heavily influenced by the traditional sounds of 1950's Skiffle but combine that with the energy of Rock and Roll and Punk. They are not a regular 'Jug and Bottle' type band, their sound is kind of New Wave Skiffle and has been described as "George Formby meets The Clash" and goes down well everywhere they play with a variety of audiences

- AFTER HOURS - After Hours has been around for a number of years and play predominantly in East Anglia appearing on the bill with such acts as Dr Feelgood , Jon Amor, Mark Butcher Band, Toyah Wilcox, Suzy Quatro and many more

New Additions to the BMF Shows Team - Including a new Operations Manager!

Steve Jones now joins the Mulberry Group as full time sales executive with immediate effect.

Steve has been involved in the BMF Shows as both a visitor and Marshal for nearly 20 years and has a great knowledge of the shows, exhibitors and performers. With the introduction of 2 new areas at this years’ BMF May show, The Vintage & Classic and Adventure & Overland areas Steve will be kept busy attracting new exhibitors.

Kate Ferrier also joined The Mulberry Group as the new operations manager with effect from January 2^nd.

Kate has been assisting at the shows during the last 18 months and will now be responsible for the day to day operational running of the shows and will liaise with exhibitors, performers and venue staff.

Rebecca Tompkins also joins the team on a year’s work placement.

Beki is currently in her final year at university where she’s studying Event Management. Beki will work with the team on the BMF Shows and other corporate clients.

Mulberry Managing Director Martin Chick said “We are delighted to have Steve, Kate and Beki on board. Both Steve and Kate have had a personal involvement in the shows and they are 100% behind what we are trying to achieve by innovating the shows” Beki has already proved to be a most valuable asset to the team and of course brings our average age down considerably!

Manufacturers to get a more Central Position at the BMF Shows

BMF Show organisers, The Mulberry Group welcomed a number of constructive feedback questionnaires from both Visitors and Exhibitors after the 2012 season, and having reviewed them will now be re-positioning the Manufacturer’s Village at the May and September shows.

Some show-goers felt that the location of the manufacturers was not as central in the showground as it could have been so during 2013 it will be moved but the new position will still provide the opportunity for the manufacturers to run demo rides from the show, which is an important feature, and one that most show-goers comment on.

The new area will comply with Health and Safety restrictions to limit vehicle movement during show opening times and instead of running North/South it will now run East/West, parallel to the main pedestrian route into the show from the Car Park.

There has already been considerable interest from manufacturers who applaud this initiative which will further integrate their presence at the shows.

In addition, the organisers are introducing 2 new areas to the shows for 2013; A Classic & Vintage area, which will be housed in the atrium and an Adventure & Overland Touring area which will also include a presentation stage with a number of guest speakers throughout the weekend….Watch this space for further news of who will be there.
